Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviana Gurdian.

Hi, Viviana; we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Viviana, and I proudly represent the 5th generation of our family farm in Costa Rica. Our farm has an incredible legacy spanning over 100 years. It all began with my great-great-grandmother, a courageous woman who bravely managed a coffee farm during an era when such roles were uncommon for women. Growing up and witnessing the passion and dedication of my 4th generation’s father in managing the farm became my biggest inspiration. He has been a significant influence on my journey, having worked on the farm for as long as I can remember. His commitment to our coffee and his unwavering dedication to sustainable farming fueled my desire to enhance people’s coffee experiences at home. Today, I aim to bring a unique, sustainably produced coffee with a delicious taste to coffee lovers. Embracing my heritage, I strive to elevate the art of coffee brewing. In doing so, I want to create a remarkable coffee experience showcasing our family farm’s rich history and exceptional quality. In addition to our dedication to producing excellent coffee, we make it accessible to coffee lovers through various avenues. We sell our coffee on our website, ensuring that anyone can enjoy the taste of our heritage from the comfort of their homes. We also participate in local farmers’ markets, where we can connect with our community and share the story behind our coffee. Additionally, we participate in special events, allowing us to reach a wider audience and introduce them to the unique flavors of our farm. But our commitment continues beyond there. We go the extra mile by setting up beautiful coffee stations for all occasions. Whether it’s a cozy family gathering, a corporate event, or a special celebration, we strive to create a memorable experience with our coffee. Our attention to detail, from the aesthetic presentation to the meticulous brewing process, sets us apart and ensures that every cup is a delight to the senses. We take great pride in our coffee, heritage, and the connections we forge. It is our joy to share our story and passion for extraordinary coffee with the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a Costa Rican living in Minnesota has been a difficult journey, trying to bring out coffee exclusively from our incredible farm. It’s been one bag at a time! I have found amazing people who have helped me through these years, but there is still much to do. I love teaching people the difference between commercial and specialty coffee and how to brew a good cup of coffee.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I worked in the corporate world for many years, primarily in marketing. Due to my husband’s job, we relocated several times before I decided to join my father’s business. That was 15 years ago, and then I discovered my true passion – becoming a coffee entrepreneur. This new venture has been both challenging and rewarding. Throughout the years, I have dedicated myself to enhancing my knowledge and expertise through various coffee courses and attending numerous coffee shows. However, what truly sets us apart is our unique connection to the journey of coffee – from our farm in Costa Rica to the cups of our customers. We take great pride in the quality and personal touch we provide.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Costa Rica with my family. I have always been an optimistic and energetic person. I fondly remember spending time with my extended family at the farms. Growing up in such a peaceful place, I never truly realized how fortunate I was.
